2027: last day of the Turner Prize at MIMA
Dated winter calendar
For the first time, the Turner Prize has come to Tees Valley. Tate and MIMA are showing work by the four shortlisted artists at Centre Square from 26 September 2026 to 29 March 2027. Entry is free, but visitors must book. Many will arrive by train, walk into town, then pick up a phone to find food, drink and shops.
Autumn half term brings families. They might type “things to do Middlesbrough half term” or “cafe near MIMA”.
Your fix: Add real photos of your food and your front door to your Google profile.
Christmas shopping starts. They might type “gift shop Middlesbrough” or “open late near me”.
Your fix: Set your special opening hours on Google before the rush.
The winner is named at MIMA on 10 December. They might type “restaurant near Centre Square” or “parmo near me”.
Your fix: Test your menu and booking link on a phone.
A quiet month for most shops. They might type “Turner Prize Middlesbrough opening times”.
Your fix: Post a short Google update that ties your offer to the show.
Half term comes round again. They might type “family day out Middlesbrough rain”.
Your fix: Answer parking, pram and access questions on your own site.
The last weeks before the show closes on 29 March. They might type “last chance Turner Prize”.
Your fix: Ask happy customers for a fresh review while they are still in town.
Monday note
MIMA is closed on Mondays. It opens Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 4pm. If you open on Mondays, make that clear on Google. Being open at the time of the search is now one of the top five map factors in Whitespark’s 2026 survey.
Dates from Tate and MIMA, checked 5 October 2026.
Middlesbrough is not short of marketing firms. The Boho Zone and the Riverside Park area hold several, and one large UK agency has its head office here. Many of them do good work. But much of that work is built for big budgets. One local agency manages £40 million of ad spend a year. Another quotes SEO from £1,300 a month. A US firm that ranks for this search lists budgets in dollars, from $2,500 a month.
Now look at who trades here. Nomis counts 3,595 businesses in Middlesbrough, and 3,175 of them employ fewer than 10 people. A barber in Linthorpe or a joiner in Acklam does not need a year long retainer. They need a site that loads fast, a Google profile that is right, and a person who explains the next step.
That is the gap we fill. Small jobs, clear prices, and one person you can ring.

The town centre is changing shape. Shops are thinning out on parts of Linthorpe Road, while leisure and new homes grow close by. Where people walk changes what they search for.
01
Now a leisure quarter with Level X, Fun Shack, Stack and the Roxy cinema. If you trade nearby, choose the most precise primary category on Google. Whitespark’s 2026 survey ranks the primary category as the top map factor.
02
Big names have left, and Boots plans to move into the Hill Street Centre. If your business has moved, fix your address and map pin today. An old pin sends people to an empty unit.
03
Around 2,000 homes are planned with Capital&Centric, due to go to planning in November, and the Old Town Hall is being restored. New residents search “near me” from their first week. Add your service area so you show up for them.
04
Home to MIMA, the Town Hall and this winter’s Turner crowds. Add fresh photos and true opening hours, because visitors judge you on Google before they walk in.
Nomis 2026 business counts show where most local firms sit. Each group needs something different from its marketing.
Need: trust. Show qualifications, real names and plain fees.
Need: calls from the right postcodes. Build a page for each area you cover.
Need: footfall. Keep hours and stock news right on Google.
Need: bookings on a phone. Make your menu and booking link load fast.
Need: leads from other firms. Write clear service pages with real examples.
Need: visitors this winter. Post events and photos on Google.

On 5 October 2026 we asked Google’s AI Mode for the best agency for a small business in Middlesbrough. It named four firms. One was picked partly because its prices were easy to find. None was picked for a slogan.
The same rules apply to your business. Google says there is no special trick for AI Overviews or AI Mode, and normal SEO still counts. That means a page Google can index, structured data that matches the words on the page, and a Business Profile kept up to date. Whitespark’s 2026 survey adds one more point: three of the top five signals for AI visibility are mentions of your business on other trusted sites.
Three things to copy
1
Put your prices, or a price range, on your site in plain words.
2
Get listed on trusted sites, like your trade body and good local directories.
3
Answer the questions customers ask, on your own pages, in short and clear replies.
A two minute check
Open your Google profile and check the date on your newest review. We looked at the agencies that rank for this search. One well known agency’s newest review was three years old. If marketing firms let this slip, most small firms do too.
Fresh reviews matter. Whitespark lists how recent your reviews are among the factors that turn a search into a customer. A five star rating from 2023 tells a shopper less than three honest reviews from last month.
The habit is simple. Send your review link the same day you finish a job. Reply to every review, good or bad, in your own words.
When people ask Google’s AI about agencies, it asks them back: what trade, what goal, what budget? We ask the same three questions, then tell you where to begin.
1
A plumber in Marton needs different work from a cafe by the station.
2
More calls, more people through the door, or more sales online.
3
From a £99 + VAT page to SEO at £399 a month, or a free check if you are not ready to spend.
Open: check first
Start with what costs nothing. Middlesbrough Council points small firms to Tees Valley Business, which offers advice and some funded support for digital projects. Some schemes include a small grant. Check what is open before you spend.
Closed
The council’s shopfront grant, worth up to £5,000 for signs, lighting and doors, closed on 31 October 2025. We list it so you do not chase a scheme that has ended.

There is no account manager in between. Hamza runs HS Tech Solution, lives in Durham and deals with every client himself. You can meet him in Durham, or talk by phone or video call. He has close to five years in the trade and leads a small team.
Run both sites through Google PageSpeed Insights yourself. We tested them in September 2026, and scores can shift. The electrician’s impressions grew a lot, but clicks stayed flat, and we would rather say so. Most of our past clients are in Australia. We have no Middlesbrough client yet, and we will not pretend we do.
We also offer digital marketing in Teesside towns close by, including Stockton, Thornaby, Redcar, Guisborough and Yarm. Further along the A66 and A1, see our pages for Darlington, Hartlepool, County Durham and Gateshead.
Ten short answers to what Teessiders ask before they hire anyone. Still unsure? Ring Hamza.
For SEO, published prices from Middlesbrough firms run from £300 + VAT to £2,500 a month. Many firms publish nothing, so ask for a written quote. Our SEO starts at £399 a month with VAT included, and a one page website costs £99 + VAT, paid once.
Spend an amount you can keep up for at least three months. For a micro firm, that might be one website job plus a few hundred pounds a month. Do the free basics first: a correct Google profile, real photos and fresh reviews. Then pay for help where you are stuck.
Ask for a written quote with VAT shown. Ask who does the work and who you will speak to each month. Test the sites they built on your own phone. Read their newest Google reviews, not just the star rating. Avoid long contracts before you have seen any results.
The best one fits your size and budget. Large local agencies suit firms with big ad spends. If you have fewer than ten staff, look for clear prices, a named person and proof you can check. Ask each Middlesbrough digital agency on your list the same questions, then compare the written answers.
Start with Tees Valley Business, which Middlesbrough Council points small firms to. It offers advice and funded help, and some schemes include a small grant. The council shopfront grant of up to £5,000 closed on 31 October 2025. Schemes change often, so check before you plan around one.
No. HS Tech Solution is run from Durham, where Hamza Shafiq, the owner, lives. You can meet him in Durham or talk by phone or video call. We would rather tell you that up front than claim an office we do not have.
Only if Google shows you when they search. The show at MIMA runs until 29 March 2027. Set accurate opening hours, add real photos, and make sure your menu or booking page works on a phone. Visitors often decide in seconds, standing in Centre Square with a phone in hand.
AI tools lean on what they can read and trust. Clear prices, matching business details across the web, fresh reviews and mentions on other sites all help. Google says normal SEO is the way into AI Overviews and AI Mode. There is no special file or trick to buy.
Yes. You buy your domain and hosting in your own name, and we guide you through each step. You pay us no monthly hosting fee. If you ever leave, you keep everything and can move it to any web company you like.
Fixes to your Google profile can help within weeks. SEO usually takes three months or more, and our SEO plans have a three month minimum. Busy trades in busy areas can take longer. We tell you the likely timeline before you sign, then send regular updates.
Free, no hard sell
Send us your business name and website. We will check how you show up when people nearby search for what you sell, then tell you the three fixes that matter most. There is no charge and no hard sell. It is the plain start any digital marketing agency in Middlesbrough should offer a small firm.
