Consett grew faster than Stanley and Leadgate. New people do not know which plumber, café or salon to use yet. They search on their phones first.
The question we hear most
It is a fair question. Ask for a website designer in a Consett chatterbox group and someone will reply that Facebook is all you need. For some firms that is true. For most, it covers only half the job.
| What a Facebook page does well | What it cannot do on its own |
|---|---|
| Lets regulars see your news and offers | Show up when a stranger searches Google for your trade |
| Gets shares in local groups | Keep your posts in front of people when the feed changes |
| Takes messages from people who already follow you | Rank for “near me” searches on Google Maps |
| Costs nothing to set up | Belong to you. Meta owns the page and sets the rules |
You are fully booked, most work comes from people who already know you, and you do not want new customers right now. If that is you, keep it simple. We will say so.
You want people from Delves Lane or Shotley Bridge who have never heard of you. Those people start on Google. A small site and a well kept Google Business Profile catch them. Your Facebook page then backs up what they find.
Owners in local groups often say the same thing: the rules keep changing and there is no time to keep up. That is the gap we fill. You run the business. We look after the part people see online.
Visitors on the route
The C2C cycle route runs over Hownsgill Viaduct and into Consett, as the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust describes. The Derwent Walk then follows the old railway line 12 miles to Swalwell. Every summer, riders and walkers come through town tired and hungry, with a phone in one hand. Durham County Council says up to 15,000 people ride the whole C2C each year, and far more ride shorter parts of it.
What these visitors check, and what you need for each:
01
Your Google Business Profile needs the right hours, real photos and the word “café” in the right category.
02
Put it in your profile and on your site. Riders choose the place that says it.
03
A B&B or holiday let needs a page that works on a weak phone signal, with a booking button near the top.
If you run a café, bike shop or B&B near the route, this is the cheapest customer you will ever get. They are already outside.
West of town, Derwent Reservoir runs for 3.5 miles along the Durham and Northumberland border. It draws thousands of anglers a year, as Visit County Durham notes, plus sailors, walkers and people staying at Pow Hill. Many of them drive through Consett. A tackle shop, pub or farm shop on the way in can catch them, but only if Maps shows it when they search.
Who trades here
Most firms around here are small. Across County Durham, 13,140 of 14,825 businesses employ fewer than ten people, which is 89%, according to Nomis UK Business Counts 2026. Construction is the biggest group, with 2,470 firms. Each type of Consett business needs something different.
Footfall comes and goes with the market. You need a Maps listing that shows today’s hours and photos people trust.
Builders, sparks and joiners across Blackhill, Castleside and Lanchester need a simple site with a phone number at the top. Add photos of real jobs and the areas you cover.
You sell to other firms, not passers by. You need clear service pages, a LinkedIn page that matches your site, and an enquiry form that reaches a real inbox.
Derwentside Business Centre alone has more than 100 managed offices, and Business Durham listed none as free when we checked in October 2026. That is a lot of small firms selling to each other from one estate.
Many people who live in Consett now work in Durham, Newcastle or Sunderland. They look for services in the evening and at weekends. If your site has no hours and no way to book, they move on to the next result.
Town centre footfall
Parking has been a talking point in Consett for years. When Durham County Council checked the Albert Road car park, it was about 90% full by 9am, as Consett Magazine reported. A three hour limit came in so shoppers could find a space. At the same time, the retail park and the 24 hour Tesco on Genesis Way pull people away from Middle Street. Local traders even set up the Consett Traders Association to bring footfall back.
So who still comes into town? Mostly people on a quick visit. They know what they want, and they check Google Maps before they set off. If your listing is wrong, they drive to Genesis Way instead.
This is the cheapest kind of SEO Consett shops can do, and most of it is free. If you would rather we did it, our Google Business Profile service covers all four.
Real prices
UK agency guides put digital marketing at £500 to £10,000 or more a month. That range is not much use to a joiner or a tea room. Here is a ladder that fits a small local firm, using our real prices.
Claim your Google Business Profile. Add your hours, ten real photos and your service areas. Ask five happy customers for a review. You can do all of this yourself this week.
A single landing page with your phone number, services, areas and a contact form. It is live in about a week.
Monthly SEO with a 3 month minimum. Month one starts with an audit. Then we fix your pages, write content and build local links. AI search checks are included at no extra cost.
Most Consett firms we would advise start on rung 1 or 2. Move up only when the phone is ringing and you want more.
Before you sign
Some sites aimed at Consett firms are rented by the month. We found prices of £50 and £59 a month on page one of Google. Renting suits some people. Hosting and support are included, and there is little to think about. But the sums add up.
| Over 1 year | Over 3 years | Who owns it? | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rented at £50 a month | £600 | £1,800 | Usually the provider |
| Rented at £59 a month | £708 | £2,124 | Usually the provider |
| Our landing page, from £99 | £99 plus your own hosting and domain | £99 plus your own hosting and domain | You |
With us, you buy the domain and hosting in your own name, and we guide you through it. If you ever leave, the site stays with you. If your old web company has stopped trading, we can help you take your site back and look after it.
Before you sign any monthly plan, ask one question: “If I stop paying, what do I keep?”
Services
Town centre
Consett market runs on Middle Street every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 8am to 4pm, as listed by Durham County Council. A community market also uses Middle Street, the Masonic Hall on John Street and the Foundation for Good on Trafalgar Street. On those days, people search for parking, opening times and which stalls are on.
The council is also writing a Strategic Place Plan, a ten year vision for the town centre. The draft vision consultation closed on 19 June 2026, and 284 people took part. The council is now reviewing feedback and seeking approval, a stage that runs until 26 October 2026, according to Let’s Talk County Durham. Plans like this can change roads, parking and where events happen. Keep your listing up to date, and you will not lose people when things change.
The Empire Theatre on Front Street opened in 1885 and now seats 503 people, according to Cinema Treasures. It runs live shows, panto and films. On show nights, people look for somewhere to eat nearby, often on their phone in the queue. A café, pub or takeaway close by needs a menu that loads fast, the right evening hours and a booking link near the top.
A note on grants
Durham County Council’s business grants help with rent, rates and premises. They do not pay for websites or marketing. But if a start up grant covers your rent for six months, the money you save could go on being found online. Ask the council’s Community Economic Development team on 03000 267 967.
Free help first: Durham Business Growth gives free support to County Durham firms. It is holding an event in Consett on 2 November 2026 at CasaLingua on Victoria Road. It is worth a look before you spend money with us or anyone else.
Who you will talk to
You deal with Hamza from your first call to the day your site goes live. Hamza brings almost five years in the trade and a small team behind him. Together they have finished over 800 jobs for clients.
We are based in Durham, not Consett, and we say so. Some agencies that show up for Consett searches are much further away, in Newton Aycliffe or on Teesside. Ask any marketing agency in Consett, or near it, where its team actually works.

Proof
You can test our claims yourself. Open these sites on your phone and test them on Google’s free PageSpeed tool.
We ran these tests in September 2026. Most of our past clients are in Australia, so we cannot show you a Consett site yet. We would rather tell you that than invent one.

FAQ
Start at £0 by fixing your Google Business Profile yourself. If you need a site, our landing page costs from £99, paid once. Monthly SEO costs £399 a month, VAT included, with a 3 month minimum. Most sole traders in Consett do not need the monthly plan until the basics work.
Facebook is enough if you are fully booked through people who already know you. If you want new customers who search Google, you need a website and a Google Business Profile as well. Facebook does not rank on Maps, and Meta controls who sees your posts.
Yes, because people check you on Google even after a friend recommends you. They look for reviews, photos and a phone number. If nothing comes up, some will ring someone else. A free Business Profile with a few reviews is often all a word of mouth firm needs.
They can if your Google Business Profile is complete. Set the right category, add real opening hours and photos, and mention bike parking. Riders search on their phones as they come off the route. The listings with the most useful details tend to get the visit.
In person meetings take place in Durham, about 25 minutes from Consett by car. Most Consett owners prefer a phone or video call, which saves you the trip. Either way, you speak to Hamza, the owner, not a sales team.
Yes. Set those places as service areas on your Google Business Profile. Then add a short section on your website about the work you do in each one. Google uses distance, relevance and how well known you are, so real reviews from those areas help too.
Not directly. The council’s business grants cover rent, rates, premises and start up running costs. They do not fund websites or marketing. If a grant covers your rent, though, it frees up money you can spend on being found online. Call 03000 267 967 to check what you can get.
Over a year, renting at £50 costs £600. Over three years, it costs £1,800. Renting includes hosting and support, but you often do not own the site. Our landing page costs from £99 once. You pay for your own hosting and domain, in your own name.
It could. The council’s Strategic Place Plan sets a ten year vision for the town centre, and its review stage runs until 26 October 2026. Changes to roads, parking or events can confuse visitors. Keep your hours, parking note and photos up to date on Google, and change them the day anything moves.
Fixes to your Google Business Profile can show up within a few weeks. A new site usually takes one to three months to settle in search results. SEO normally needs at least three months to show steady results. Fresh reviews help too. The newest reviews on the local listings we checked were about two years old, so a recent one stands out.
