Built for life on the hill
Consett sits about 900 feet above the sea. That makes it one of the highest market towns in England. People who live here know the rest. The snow arrives earlier, the frost stays longer, and a road that is fine in Newcastle can be shut up here.

Across the UK the spread is wide. Duport puts the average small business site between about £240 for a DIY builder and £10,000 for a full agency build. Most local trades and shops do not need the top end.
What pushes a price up is simple. More pages, a booking system, an online shop, or words and photos we have to write and source for you. What keeps it down is a clear brief. If you can tell us what you sell, who buys it and how they contact you, a small site stays small in price too.
You also pay for a few things outside the build. A domain name is usually around £10 to £15 a year. Hosting for a small site often costs a few pounds a month. You buy both in your own name, and we walk you through it, so they stay yours.
Recommendations still count
Most firms in this corner of the county are tiny. In the Blaydon and Consett area, 2,160 of 2,425 businesses employ fewer than ten people, according to Nomis UK Business Counts 2026. Plenty of them get most work from recommendations.
