Search help for Darlo firms
Type “plumber Darlington” into Google and watch what it suggests. The first ideas are often Darlington in South Carolina, or Darlington Point in New South Wales. Good SEO in Darlington starts by making sure Google knows which town you mean. We fix that first, then help local people find you on the map, in search results and in AI answers.
Our monthly plan is £399 with VAT included. You speak to Hamza, the owner, who lives in Durham.
What a Darlington customer sees
Only three firms get the map spots for a Darlington search. Our job is to make you one of them.
Our dated search audit
There are towns called Darlington in South Carolina, Wisconsin and Western Australia. There is a Darlington Point in New South Wales. There are Darlington Streets in Wigan and Wolverhampton. Each one competes for the same word your customers type.
On 4 October 2026 we typed common trades into Google UK and noted what it suggested. Construction is the biggest group of firms in the borough, with 510 of 3,450 businesses, so we started with trades (Nomis 2026).
| What we typed | What Google suggested | What can go wrong | What we fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| plumber darlington | Darlington SC, Darlington Point NSW | Your page reads like it could be anywhere | Add DL postcodes, local areas and a UK phone code to the page and profile |
| electrician darlington | Darlington SC, WA and WI | Google mixes in US and Australian pages | Use one clear name, address and phone line everywhere you are listed |
| solicitors darlington | Darlington Street in Wolverhampton and Wigan, a firm in Edgware | A street name or another firm’s name takes the click | Name the town and the county or Tees Valley near your firm’s name |
| hairdresser darlington | Darlington WA, Darlington Point | Locals scroll past results that are not theirs | Mention Cockerton, Duke Street or the town centre where it is true |
| cafe darlington | town centre, market, station, Memorial Hospital | You miss people searching by landmark | Write a line for each place you serve, not a list of place names |
Locals do not just type “Darlington”. Google’s suggestions show people adding the place they are standing in or heading to. The words they add most are town centre, Cockerton, Duke Street, the market, the station, the Memorial Hospital and “open now”. Some people skip the full name and type “Darlo”.
That tells you what a page needs. A cafe near the station should say so. A hairdresser in Cockerton should say Cockerton. A takeaway should keep its opening hours right, because “open now” is one of the words people add.
Prices checked 4 October 2026
Most firms show prices without VAT. We added VAT where they told us it was extra, so you can compare like for like. Prices were checked on the firms’ own pages on 4 October 2026.
| Firm | Price shown | With VAT | What the price does not tell you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outrank | £300 + VAT a month (local), £500 + VAT (regional) | £360 / £600 | How many tasks each month covers |
| Webahead | £430 + VAT, £630 + VAT | £516 / £756 | Still lists sending your site to Yahoo, which no longer matters |
| seodarlington.uk | £500 to £1,500 a month | VAT not stated | Says anything cheaper should be avoided, with no detail on why |
| Tyneside Marketing | £950 a month on its own, £600 with a new website | VAT not stated | The lower price needs a website project too |
| DUO Digital | Plans for budgets from £100 to £1,000 | Not stated | No fixed plan on the page |
| HS Tech | £399 a month | £399, VAT included | Three month minimum, told up front |
Google’s own answer to “how much should SEO services cost” shows US dollar prices, even to people searching from the UK. That is no help to a shop on Skinnergate. The table above is in pounds and comes from firms that serve this town.
One warning from Google’s AI answers is worth keeping: plans under £150 a month are often automated, with little human time spent on your site. Ask any firm, including us, what a person will actually do in month one. Our SEO plans page lists our monthly tasks.
Data from 16,098 Google profiles
The three businesses shown above the normal results get most of the local calls. In September 2026, Localo checked 16,098 Google Business Profiles against the main expert survey on local ranking (Localo study). Here is what the data showed, and what it means for you.
1
Profiles with 201 to 500 reviews made the top three 73% of the time. Profiles with 1 to 5 reviews made it 39% of the time. Ask every happy customer, every week.
2
This was the second strongest factor in the study. Add real photos of your van, your shop front and your work in Darlington.
3
Profiles with six extra categories reached the top three 69% of the time, against 48% with none.
4
Linking your Facebook page to your profile gave a clear lift.
5
Address, website, description, ten photos and ten reviews all count.
The same study found that stuffing keywords into reviews or posts did very little. So we do not ask your customers to write “best plumber in Darlington”. We ask them to say what you did.
Google’s AI Mode backs this up. When we asked it for the best SEO firms here, every firm it named had reviews and a Darlington street address, on Coniscliffe Road, Peel Court or Faverdale.
Sunday 15 November 2026
The switch on is on Sunday 15 November 2026 in the Market Square. Entertainment starts at 4pm and the lights go on just before 5.30pm (Enjoy Darlington). Busy town centre nights bring a rush of “near me” and “open now” searches from phones.
This matters most for food and drink firms near the Market Hall and its Street Food Hall, and for shops around High Row and the Yards.
AI search
More people now ask an AI tool, “Who is a good electrician in Darlington?” These tools pull from the same places as Google: your profile, your reviews, your website and other sites that mention you.
Google’s advice is plain: there is nothing extra to add for its AI features. The same basics apply: useful pages, clear facts and a site it can read (Google Search Central). We check how your business shows in AI answers as part of the monthly plan, at no extra cost.
When we asked Google’s AI Mode for help, it asked follow up questions.
Your website should answer all three in plain words, near the top of the page.
How we work
One checklist, so you always know where things are.
Week 1
We search for your trade in Darlington the way your customers do, and note who shows up on the map and in AI answers.
Weeks 2 to 4
We fix your Google profile, your name and number across listings, and the pages Google reads first.
Month 2
We write or improve pages for the areas and jobs that bring in work, such as a boiler repair page for DL3.
Month 3
We build local links and mentions, then send a short report in plain English. It shows calls, map views and searches.
Free help first
For business help, Darlington sits with the Tees Valley Combined Authority, so County Durham schemes do not apply here. Business Tees Valley is the local Growth Hub. It is launching a new support service in Winter 2026, and you can register now (Business Tees Valley). Call them on 01325 792600.
If you make things, ask about Made Smarter, which helps manufacturers pay for digital tools. We would rather you used free help first and paid us only for what is left.

Your contact in Durham
Hamza Shafiq runs HS Tech and lives in Durham, about half an hour up the road. You can meet him in Durham, or talk on the phone or a video call. He answers your questions himself, in plain words.
Proof
We will be straight with you: we have no Darlington client yet, as most of our past work is for firms in Australia. Here is one we can show you.
One example is an electrician whose site climbed from 375 to 4,600 impressions in Google, at an average spot of 2.7. Clicks stayed about the same, and we tell you that too. More people saw the business, and now the work is turning those views into calls. We can share the Search Console screens on a call.
Areas
We offer SEO services in Darlington across the DL1, DL2 and DL3 postcodes. That includes the town centre, Cockerton, Haughton, Harrowgate Hill, Mowden and Hummersknott. We also cover the business parks at Faverdale, Morton Palms and Yarm Road, and the villages of Hurworth, Middleton St George and Heighington.
Questions
An SEO agency helps your business show up when people search on Google. Each month that means fixing your Google profile, improving your pages, getting your details right on other sites and earning local mentions. A good one tells you what it did, in plain words, and shows you calls and searches, not just rankings.
Local SEO for a small Darlington firm usually costs £360 to £1,500 a month, going by prices published in town. Our plan costs £399 each month, VAT in, and runs for at least three months. Always check whether a price includes VAT. Most firms here show it without.
It is worth it if your customers search for what you sell and you have no time to do the work. A trade with steady local searches often gains the most. If you only need a better Google profile, you can start yourself. We will tell you honestly which camp you are in.
No. AI tools still pull their answers from websites, reviews and business profiles. Google says the same basics apply to its AI features as to normal search. What has changed is that clear facts and good reviews matter even more, because AI tools quote them back to people.
The 80/20 rule says a small share of your work brings most of your results. For a local firm, that share is usually your Google profile, your reviews and the two or three pages that bring in calls. We start there before spending time on anything else.
Google sees many places called Darlington, so it needs clues. If your site lacks a DL postcode, a UK phone number or local area names, it may match you with the wrong town. We add those clues to your pages, your profile and your listings so Google knows you are in County Durham.
Not always. If your site loads fast on a phone and Google can read it, we work with what you have. If it is slow or broken, fixing it first saves money. Our web design in Darlington starts at £99 plus VAT for a one page site.
Some years it can, but check first. Business Tees Valley is launching a new support service in Winter 2026, and the Export Fund closed on 31 August 2026. Call 01325 792600 to ask what is open now. Never sign with an agency because they say a grant will cover it.
Most local firms see map views rise within two to three months. Calls follow once you rank in the top three map spots for your main jobs. Busy trades, such as solicitors or builders, can take six months or more. If your trade will take longer, you hear it from us first.
You do. Your Google profile, your website, your content and your reports stay with you. We set everything up in your name from day one. If you stop after the minimum term, you keep it all and we hand over any logins we manage.
Free, no pressure
Tell us your trade and the part of Darlington you serve. We then search like your customers would and show you which firms beat you on the map, and why. It is free, with no follow up pressure.
